CybSafe, Level 39, London, 8 August 2017: CybSafe, the GCHQ-accredited cyber security training platform, today announces a partnership with the Law Society, the professional body for solicitors, placing cyber security training at the heart of the Law Society’s information security marketplace.

As one of just five certified partners of the Law Society, CybSafe will help to inform the Law Society’s future cyber security training for its members.

Law firms must continue to safeguard the highly sensitive information they work with on a day-to-day basis. According to the Law Society, effective training is essential to combat the substantial and credible threat to the cyber security of UK law firms from increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks.

The partnership will enable Law Society members to better prepare and prevent against the reputational, regulatory and financial risks of cyber attacks.. The digitisation of the courts, the increasingly digital work that law firms do, as well as the forthcoming EU General Data Protection Regulation which will set large fines for data breaches, mean greater focus on cyber security for vital sectors such as the legal industry.

Oz Alashe, CEO, CybSafe, said: “Data breaches are a significant and present threat to law firms across the country due to the mass of sensitive client data they hold on their systems. The Law Society’s partnership with CybSafe is an indication of the proactive and precautionary approach to information security the Law Society is encouraging its members to take.

“Lawyers handle data that is a prime target for attackers. Cyber security training, now more than ever, needs to be a permanent item on the agendas of law firms. Staff need to have the knowledge to recognise and prevent cyber-threats, which can circumvent security software.”

CybSafe already works with companies from within the legal sector to ensure company-wide security. An example of this is Thrings, a top 100 law firm, who began working with CybSafe in June 2017.

Simon Holdsworth, Managing Partner at Thrings said; “Cyber attacks are rising at an unprecedented rate and becoming increasingly sophisticated. As a law firm, we take the protection of our own and our clients’ data extremely seriously. Managing our infrastructure in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible is vital and CybSafe has played an important part in our information security strategy.

“We found the training highly relevant and user-friendly. In the on-going war on cyber attacks, it has made a positive difference to the company and given our people a clear insight into how they can manage the risks we face every day.”

The Law Society represents 135,000 practising solicitors, 10,000 law firms in England & Wales. The society represents, promotes and supports solicitors.
