Using comics to teach users about mobile online privacy

Users’ privacy is increasingly being jeopardized by images uploaded using smartphones. These images have detailed metadata that can be used maliciously. We designed an online interactive comic to study whether this kind of teaching media can effectively communicate to end-users about the risks associated with mobile online privacy. We present the learning outcomes of our comic prototype based on comparisons of a pretest questionnaire with a follow-up questionnaire one week later. We found significant improvements01in participants’ understanding and the majority of users reported positive changes in mobile privacy behaviour.
