Nowadays, information becomes a very valuable thing that is owned by every individual, organization or company. Various efforts are made to maintain the security of information owned. There are still many people who pay less attention to the danger or threat to the security of data or information owned. This study aims to find out the methods used by social engineering perpetrators who attack the probable victims and to know the comparison of the use of SMS and telephone in social engineering assault and to find out how the prevention of social engineering assault. This research attempts to collect literature on social engineering, share questionnaires, and analyze the results of questionnaires. There are 277 respondents collected at Advent Indonesia University (UNAI). Analysis and data processing showed that social engineering assault carried out by the perpetrator are more using SMS (252 occurrences) than telephone (207 occurrences). Of these incidents, there are (27.77%) of the respondents who had been victims of social engineering attacks with SMS, (14.97%) of the respondents who had been victims of social engineering attacks with the telephone.
