SB080 Verifies caller details from unexpected calls

Criminals sometimes use phone calls to try and elicit sensitive information from people. This is called 'Vishing'. In instances where sensitive topics are to be discussed, details of unknown callers should be verified. If in doubt, don't provide any sensitive information to the caller, hang up and instead find a company phone number from their genuine website to call the company back.

Why is it important?

Calling is a method for eliciting information. Besides gathering information through what is directly said, callers can get information from what isn't said. It's important to verify who is speaking before engaging in conversation.
